Sod the pay sire- an opportunity to monitor standards of work on a pipeline job? I`d do it fer a packet of smarties and a toilet roll a week. The accommodation could comprise a coat-hanger and a bin liner for all I care! Problem is of course, with some pipelines, any reports written for ones employer would be PhD sized on a daily basis
Seriously though, hats off to the advertiser of this position for monitoring:face-approve:

Unfortunately, said job is asking for a years commitment- I would have to give up me near-east research excavations and postpone the Masters I`m awaiting funding on.....one day sir, one day.......[:p]

But we agree that RSK are taking this all seriously and this is another brave step to ensure quality.
Pipelines... has anyone considered writing archaeological guidlines on these beasts? Or haev any comments... So often archaeology has to invent methods on the hoof so to speak... or do we already have robust, workable and defined practice for these projects? (and roads for that matter).
I would love to see (and distribute ) documents that provide guidelines

I don't know why RSK's job advert should be considered unusual, 'brave' or particularly praiseworthy. Everything that is in that job advert is absolutely standard for most of the larger consultancy firms, including the one I work for.
The job advert could almost be quoting word-for word a description of the job I had when I first joined my present organisation 11 years ago, the main difference being that that one was for motorway construction rather than pipeline work. It is also clear that the person employed will be supporting established staff in carrying out the job.
The post does represent good practice, but is not in any way unusual.

The advert belies a commitment to the monitoring of standards sir-one of the rarest practises ever.Especially for consultancies.Sad thing is...the local curators/LPA should be doing it but as we have seen elsewhere, they are at best inconsistant and at worst-politically hog-tied or massively under-resourced.Well done RSK- there is a huge chasm of difference between making things look pretty on paper (endemic consultancy operational procedure) and actually doing what it says on the tin.

As I think I have mentioned before - everything in that advert, including the monitoring of standards, is a common part of the workload of consultancy companies (or at least of the large multi-disciplinary ones, such as RSK, Atkins, Jacobs, RPS, etc). I joined my present employers 11 years ago to do a similar job, and we have been doing similar work ever since.
It makes good commercial sense for consultancy firms firstly to specify high standards and secondly to monitor them.

I have no issue with you there sir except to say that your list is not exactly exhaustive and thats my point entirely-even your good self can only count the good consultancies on one hand.:face-huh:
