I think many would.
Also I can see the archaeological side of the argument regarding "finders reward" would be a large contributor.
What I can say is that both groups are fascinated by history... but I'm not a spokesperson for metal detectorists.

So why would these archaeologists think it rude of me to think of them as archaeologists?

I agree. If we went by weight of numbers and accessibility and to be so polite (I am presuming that detectorits donât want to be rude and call me/anybody an archaeologist) we should collectively be called detectorists. Do you agree?
