If i was carrying out a small one to two day evaluation as part of a research project would i need to get insurance and a health and safty document for some friends who are helping me out, its not commercial in anyway and apart from beer and food they arn't reciving anything for there trouble

I think Drunky that you may need some kind of 3rd party cover if you are working in an area where the general public are admitted. But you may find that the National Trust are covered for this anyway and as you are working there with NT permission (I guess), that their insurance also covers your project....

Hi Drunky,
At some point you will need to sign a National Trust Licence Agreement before you start any fieldwork - make sure you read it carefully as you will be required to provide Public Liability Insurance of not less than ?2million (see David's note), an agreed project design, and a risk-assessment. The relevant NT archaeologist will give you all the help you need. Your insurance may already be covered through your research body but don't leave anything to chance! Don't forget that we're happy to provide any support that you may need in terms of your final report.

Thanks for that i havn't heard anything back yet about the project design yet, but for the first stage (a small evaluation) it's pretty much all me, i look around for prices,
I was wondering if the people helping me out had there our personal insurance would that be exceptable, or would i still need some form of cover for everyone as my names on the top of the list
