Well what is it? What keeps you going... what is the single most important thing that would make you stay, and if it was never to be attainable would make you leave?

I am trying!!!!!!!
TBH I think it depends on what mood I am in. And there are times when I have no idea why I pursue archaeology. I think of it as more of a vocation.... albeit specialised and trained.

I think mostly stability in my working life would come out the top in the poll presented, although flexibility to go off and pursue other interests has always been something I've enjoyed generally in archaeology!

I agree with Geli thats why i ticked more money, i accept i won't be rich but not be a week away from going in to the red will mean i could take time off to do other things
Archaeology is the peeping Tom of the sciences It is the sandbox of men who care not where they are going; they merely want to know where everyone else has been.

I need to believe that what im doing is important and not just a pre-construction smash and grab! Am just about clinging onto that belief but the poor standards and enforcement are the things that have most often made me seriously consider leaving the profession.

Actually I think they are all inextricably linked: improve one and the others will, by and large, improve. I voted for better pay, which I reckon would lead sooner or later to more respect and a more stable life. Interesting that no-one's interested in better training though.
