I blame the schools.....Noah's Ark was famously made from 'Gopher Wood'. And as the ark story is the only time this otherwise unidentified wood is mentioned in the bible, I guess the explorers of Mount Ararat will soon be able to confirm what precisely gopher wood is or was.....Noah's other claim to fame of course is that he is both the first man to get drunk and the first man to be ashamed of his actions when he was drunk....for a dead racey story the consequences of which can still be seen in the geopolitical make-up of Palestine and the Levant I can recommend Genesis chapters 6-9....

Cool story. These guys are not the only ones desperate to identify physical evidence to support their interpretation of scripture. Israel and roundabouts is verily swarming with all manner of (usually American) faithful tinkering with the finite resource and busily (and often ingeniousely) matching their findings to biblical text. Often, politics plays a huge part in these endeavours and it really is worth a read of the exploits. Perhaps if these guys took the time to recognise the metaphorical nature of some scripture to be found in the Talmud/Torah/Apocrypha/Gospels and also recognised that much of the biblical record (as it survives today) is but a flimsy and heavily edited glimpse of the original writings, so much time and money could be saved!

As a bit of an aside......... How many of us archaeologists have actually taken the time to study the Talmud/Torah/Apocrypha/Gospels at least as historical documents/social commentary/studies in phenomenology/theology and afterlife systems? It seems to be the case that archaeologists (en masse) exclude these writings on the basis that God does not exist...ergo....the script is not worth studying?

Any "Dawkins Athiest Archaeological Research" society would have a long way to go to disprove the existence of God stratigraphically !

Absolutely. The Quran is as good a place to start as any. I would recommend that you seek out an accompanying guidebook however as the Quran is all revealed-in stark contrast to the scriptures and can be heavy going for some. The Quran differs in a fairly substantial way from the scriptures in that......in its entirety, it records revelation delivered to the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) through the Angel Gabriel. The deeds of the Prophet, his life and his teachings are to be found in seperate publications known as the Hadith. A good accompaniment to the Quran would be "The Path of Muhammad : A Book On Islamic Morals & Ethics" written by the 16th Century Islamic mystic Imam Birgivi. ISBN-13 978-0-941532-68-6.
P.S The Quran should always be stored/kept clean, never be allowed to rest below the feet and should never touch the floor.
p.s Muslims are obliged to love and respect all of the prophets from Adam all the way through to Muhammad (p.b.u.h) so I would encourage a reading of the Torah/Talmud/Gospels/Apocrypha as well!
