If given an accomodation allowance, it should be the choice of the diggers where they want to lodge.

Aye, but depends on the contract with the client I guess....although I've come across many construction crews/companies doing the same.

Assume that's a request to visit my tent? (luckily I'm camping tonight) :face-approve:
Have talked to loads of construction guys over the years about this and half of them seem to spend most of their time getting stressed about where they can park the caravan etc etc, plus there's the inconvenience of having all your stuff nicked all the time. The ones living in accom. blocks on the job usually seem most chilled, and they're usually s***e! I've seen what plenty of places are like that diggers have sorted for themselves to 'save some money', no wonder a lot of them are quite so b****y miserable. Lot easier and usually makes for a better atmosphere in my experience if the employer sorts something decent for everyone - although actually camping on site was always the best for a fun social life

I would gladly live in a tent on site, I would do anything just for a job right now even if it meant living in a tent, id work happily for minimum wage just for the privilege of having a job.

Well, there you have it. I think that answers a lot of questions that get thrown up on BAJR (probably the sane question repeatedly) and sums up the position with commercial archaeology in a nutshell. Next time someone asks why are pay and conditions so bad, here is your amswer.

Oooh, goody, does that mean we can bring camping on site back? :face-approve:

I disagree, its unfair to lay the blame for bad pay and conditions on the unemployed and hungry.

I disagree Jack. If you told a manager that you would happily work for mimimum wage and live in a tent and consider it a privilige, then of course they are not going to be interested in improving conditions: the workforce is not clearly not bothered about improving their lot.
