Thank you for all your help, and the words of encouragement! Ive spoken to my Referances and they're happy im going to apply in fact the term "at bloody last!" was used a few times!
But i just wanted to Thank you all for your advice!, i will follow up on the union thing, as i think thats the last thing for me to do on my "graduate" list! lol

I have indeed a reasonably interesting stance on the IfA .. you are right to point out. Shall we say that David Connolly had some issues... and these have never been addressed but BAJR will support any group with some clout to bring about real change. you could call it a serious case of Groucho Marx syndrome (I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member) and perhaps its a bit...er... weird and bi-polar of me. But until the David Connolly issue is sorted out... he ain't (re)joining.... BAJR however will support the IfA
hummm when you write it down it looks even worse!

S'ok, have some idea about the David Connolly issues (archaeologists do tend to be good at research by whatever means...), just didn't want to be holding a sharp stick and not poke something with it :face-approve:

I am at the moment trying to fill in a AIfA application- frightening experience- because I have been told it will be good for my career. I should point out that I have been working professionally for nearly nine years and the 'about time' comment could be applied to me. I am also applying for Licentiate of AAI&S -something which I do value.

ah.. AAI&S.. watch out for my article coming up in the magazine... why AAI&S matters!
breathe deep with the IfA and also consider what it is you are doing it for.... if all else fails - phone them up... they are nice!

Why exactly should being an AIFA be good for anyone's career as opposed to not being an AIFA? I can think of any number of archaeologists who's careers are just fine without any involvement in IFA whatsoever :face-stir:
Isn't Unit going to chip in on this?

Certainly being a member these days is a prerequisite if you work in the south.
I always went in at affliate level - I wasn't really interested in being a corporate member and voting, it worked out much cheaper, and I could still legitimately put "member of the IFA" on a CV

Trouble with that is I have seen some .. ahem shysters using that.. Member of the IfA and fooling people... be careful with that...

Is it legal for southern units to run an 'IFA member only' policy? IFA membership has no legal validity at all, even as a guarantor of competence (I can think of some utter incompetents I've worked for in the past who are MIFAs) - surely they could be taken apart at an employment tribunal?
