Can we seek a response from ALGAO?

Keeping in tune with the current posts, the Portable Antiquities Scheme will also be affected by gov spending cuts. Some Flo's may be made redundant, the areas they cover will shrink, leaving some areas without coverage for the recording of finds. Rhetorically, how will this affect the way "we" protect and service UK heritage?

My company has just let 15 go, and probably another 15 or more going in a couple of months.
(Not sure if i'm allowed to name names but to give you a clue they're one of the biggest and most galatic empire-esque of companies, and share a name with a famous university.)

when so many of the services taken for granted today are allowed to wither and die...it will be too late.

talking to my local CA the other day their response to the threat (and actual) cuts over the past year, is that the 20-odd years which have gone into building up the CAS round where we are here, will have been worth nothing, as even if the money were to be made available almost immediately after the cuts take place, the impact will have been sufficient to require a number of years just to get back to where we were last year

none of them are yet facing redundancy as far as i know - but what will happen when the CASs cannot scrutinise apps, in order to ask for conditions as they are snowed under, if they still exist at all - at that point many more units will disappear as there just won't be the need for them, as there will be none at county level to advise DCs and to require archaeological work; left to themselves, i can't really see DCs round the country systematically and - i'm afraid - competently imposing conditions on planning apps.

back to volunteering - just like in the good old days - the BIG society works, it's just that we won't be - for pay anyway - does this mean we'll see the return of the YOPS/MSC?

This is very sad indeed. Just before christmas we had a discussion about the future of BA, and its effect on us students, it wasn't exactly what we wanted to hear
