I have been asked by a local historical society to undertake a community led project to record redundant railway buildings. I have suggested using rectified photography, however can anyone recommend sofware which will enable me to rectify the image in order to produce a CAD drawing of the structure? It would be even better if it was available for free as funds are tight.

I did look last year when I needed some software at short notice, but couldn't find anything for less than about ?400 that was really up to the job... How are you surveying the buildings? Could you use the survey equipment to record the facades and produce a 'frame' and then use Microsoft Photosynth to 'wrap' the photos around the surveyed frame?
Last time I looked Photsynth was a freebie.....It creates a nice effect (although I would be doubtful without a full survey that it is accurate enough for detailed recording purposes).....
