which bit of Berkshire HER failed??? There are now six HER's in Berkshire and all still running along srtrongly as far as I am aware. West Berks went back in house, East Berkshire \9ie the rest) went to Reading Museum on a contract basis NOT back in house. ...sorry to be pedantic.....

I have been on holiday.....something I seem to have missed here. Doesn't PPS5 say:
Policy HE2: Evidence base Authorities should have publicly-documented evidence about the historic environment with proportionate level of detail, maintain or have access to a historic environment record (HER) and assess the assets in their area and their contribution to the environment now and in the future.
So closing down an HER isn't an option unless they are providing access to an alternative. Why are we wasting time arguing the merits of various councils when surely all we should be doing is sticking this paragraph under the noses of Chief Executives and asking for them to fulfill their legal obligations....
