The world would crumble if context 567 was to be known publicly I know exactly what you mean though... and so... for the commercials you can remain an invisible profession. I am being commercial and visible. Its all about choice.
Anyway... It is not actually a survey... so to stop any confusion... will people (those that feel able to talk about their day) go along to

and read on
Those that can get involved, please do. Those that can't for commercial reasons... don't - but let the rest of us get involved Shimples
NOTE :: Dino does make a serious point , commercial companies are getting twitchy about anyone knowing anything about what is going on. so be aware - you don't want to lose your job because you talked about your work.
As someone who is working on/admin for a "Time Team/Bonekickers/Archeology" site... most of mine will probably be logging my fixing of snafus... so I'm safe.

I agree. Maybe archaeologists who find themsleves in that situation could post on the day sonething personal and non-specific about archaeologiy i.e uncconected with their current employment or project..... but add the rider that they can't comment on their ongoing project for contractual reasons. That in itself may be all that needs to be said about the current state of UK archaeology.....

No
they want records created by Archaeologists taking part in the project will document their day through photographs, videos and written blog posts. Presumably by contributing to the day you must be an archaeologist. Yes archaeologist. That?s not a site assistant is it nor a project officer by the way or is it the everybody including vjjuyteer can be kind.
This an example of the curse of being an archaeologist. That everything that you see and do has to be recorded and not only recorded, preserved for all eternity and for everybody that exists and for ever. We are like sitting ducks, all tooled up with ?methods of mass recording?. Thing is, Is what is going to be recorded on the great day going to be recorded for everybody and for ever? If it isn?t then it is not archaeology and presumably what you are recording isn?t archaeology so then you were not doing archaeology, then it cant be a day of archaeology.
Part of preservation is relying on people in the future wanting to see the record created. Archaeological records, although created on a day, are space dependent, a space that we destroy when preserving by record. This gives archaeological data type uniqueness by space destruction. So the archaeology day needs a record of destroyed space for it to be archaeological. But we are supposed to preserve in situ. We cant go around encouraging people to destroy space for some archaeologyday can we?
This is where this jolly day comes from
Quote:
[SIZE=3]The Department of Information Studies seeks to define, study, and evaluate interactions among people, information and information technology in a pluralistic society. The Department values and promotes equity, diversity, accountability and intellectual openness.

Suddenly I found my interactions studied yet defined and had my interactions among people evaluated in a ?pluralistic society? (what that) by Liberians. Now this all makes sense it feels like anthropology but it is so much more. Is this some self fulfilling philosophy to generate ever more stuff for Liberians to justify their existence. Why don?t they have a librarianswhoworkforcityanalystssothattheycangambleonstocksday or would that be a record of insider trading.
Oh but archaeology needs the publicity.
No charities/education departments who sup of the backs of archaeologists need publicity. What we need is to be paid for space destruction recording and reduction. Example silty clay. That?s about a goolebyt of particles described in eight letters. And don?t worry although rearranged and not where I first saw them most of those particles still survive. I want about twenty quid an hour if you want me to record anymore of it.

One of the things that I am really looking forward to about the 'Day of Archaeology' is the knowledge that Unit of One will not be taking part in it!! That's almost as good as seeing the first daffodil of spring, new born lambs, a pint of Adnams on a summers day, fresh pasta with garlic and oil, etc etc etc........

It occurred to me, there is a tendency to over focus on procedural trivia and the incessant need to point it out. What does this imply? Why the need to cloud the overall purpose and objective of the exercise?
Enjoy the Day of Archaeology without the road blocking and contribute what you can and take from it what you will!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
