Ouch... that is one hell of a U turn, and not one that really sounds like him, I can almost hear the cracking of bones from Central Command.. SIGN IT!! SIGN IT NOW!!
The first speech was clear. there was no debate, it was a fact that archaeology was no longer going to feature in FEnland Planning, and we were all a bunch of Bunny Huggers and Historic Lefties.
WEll this is a message to be heard loud a clear. the public will not stand for it, the archaeolgists will not stand for it, and if you want to still be in power ... don't mess with our heritage.
I still have a Freedom of Information to rifle through... can't wait!

John Elworthy, editor of the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) was asked for clarification of the Fenland District Council Statement, and asked to confirm it was indeed issued by the Fenland District Council. He was also asked to confirm that Cllr. Melton authored the statement on behalf of the Fenland District Council. John was also asked if there were any plans for the statement to be issued by EDP on line or in print.
John did confirm authenticity and chose not to comment further.
The potentially scarey bit is the FOI request.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Yes, he's taking refuge in the "promoting the debate" story isn't he.
Does anyone have any idea when he is going to Oxford for the debate? Might be an interesting day out...
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

I was thinking of a spoof headline something along the lines of 'Tories congratulated for discovering species of dinosaur in the Fens, previously thought extinct' but I didn't get it to Private Eye in time...

I feel we should have a regular Digging the Dirt section... for our very own Private Eye ---
Enjoy this as well from Archaeology Tea Club... via DtD and then to BAJR.
It seems that Alan Melton may not be wrong about us after all?
