I once heard Chris Tilley read a very dense paper on the construction of symbolic meaning, then later the same day fail comprehensively to perform the sequence of four symbols required in the song YMCA. Whether this has anything useful to tell us about the relationship between theory and practice I sincerely doubt, but it did make me laugh so hard I nearly fell off my bar stool.
Does anyone else have any poorly-attributed comparisons between notable archaeologists or archaeological theories, and seventies dancefloor classics?
I'm sure there are many that have suffered a 'Freak Out' and given the drinking of others how they have been 'Staying Alive' is a miracle... I'll get me coat.
Perhaps all archaeological theory should have to be expressed through the medium of dance, it'd be more entertaining if nothing else!

Well Tim Darvill plays lead guitar in 'The Standing Stones' (or 'Ploughed 2 B*ggery', depending on the calibre of function at which they appear). Someone should nick the setlist at their next gig and check it for disco classics.
Personally, I'd pay good money to see Barry Cunliffe doing The Timewarp...

For the past couple of days, I've found myself muttering 'What would Colin Renfrew do? What would Colin Renfrew do? What would Colin Renfrew do? Doodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-ooo' whenever my mind wanders for even a second. It's annoying enough for me, but it's driving everyone else mad - it's almost worse than when I got an unending loop of Chris De Burgh's much-overappreciated classic 'Lady In Red' stuck in my head for the best part of a week!

STOP IT! STOP IT NOW!!! That bldy tune haunts me throughout the Christmas shopping season. Doesn't matter which ruddy shop I go in - it's ALWAYS PLAYING! Every year!!
It's midsummer on an archaeology message board... Any right-thinking human would consider themselves safe from such festive aural molestation.
If anyone wants me I'll be in the bar. Rocking gently, whimpering into a small sweet sherry and praying for Easter.
Damn you, De Burgh!

Go away for a while and come back to find BAJR filled with Processual Renfrew and De Burgh. I think I am having a 'Life On Mars' moment.

OOPS! My sincerest apologies to all - in mitigation I'm still suffering de Burgh-itis although the wasps on site have been doing their best to distract me with repeated stings....maybe Mother Nature's a music critic.....and its decided to p**s down with rain when I'm going camping for the weekend too....
