Deal secures future of North Pennines Archaeology

A SPECIALIST archaeology business has been saved after being bought out of administration by a Stoke-based engineering and environmental consultancy.


North Pennines Archaeology (NPA) ? based at Nenthead in Alston, Cumbria ? was placed into administration after the threat of a winding-up petition related to historic VAT debts.


Joint administrators Linda Farish and Anthony Josephs in the recovery team at Newcastle-based accountants and business advisors RMT have secured a sale of the assets to global multi-disciplinary consultancy Wardell Armstrong.
The deal has secured the future of the 18-strong workforce.

There is no mention of VAT debts in any of their last few years charity commission accounts. The accounts show deficits over the last few years but no mention of VAT that I can see. Does anybody know if this is a new law charging VAT on charity business? There would be a lot of worried ex council units -sorry trusts out there if true.

Its amazingly good news for everybody David. It is the way forward for everybody and from such a bad starting point.

Somehow NP are a three year loss making operation apparently with a VAT problem and now a nice cuddly international mining company who apparently has been working closely and ?successfully? with NP for the last two loss making years thinks that they are a good buy (possibly a confidential deal or will it be in the NP heritage trusts accounts for next year?). Does anybody know of any other examples that might be in the pipeline of international mining companies who own ex council units and ??let? them keep their local council ?name?.
