Deal secures future of North Pennines Archaeology
Quote:A SPECIALIST archaeology business has been saved after being bought out of administration by a Stoke-based engineering and environmental consultancy.
North Pennines Archaeology (NPA) ? based at Nenthead in Alston, Cumbria ? was placed into administration after the threat of a winding-up petition related to historic VAT debts.
Joint administrators Linda Farish and Anthony Josephs in the recovery team at Newcastle-based accountants and business advisors RMT have secured a sale of the assets to global multi-disciplinary consultancy Wardell Armstrong.
The deal has secured the future of the 18-strong workforce.

This is obviously catching. I don't know if it's good news or not but I just received an email advert from a firm with the unlikely name Sumo Survey Services to let me know that they have absorbed Stratascan:

The story says that the SPECIALIST archaeology business was placed into administration after the threat of a winding-up petition related to historic VAT debts.
There is no mention of VAT debts in any of their last few years charity commission accounts. The accounts show deficits over the last few years but no mention of VAT that I can see. Does anybody know if this is a new law charging VAT on charity business? There would be a lot of worried ex council units -sorry trusts out there if true.

Hello Dirty boy -according to the 2010 accounts this SPECIALIST archaeology company appears to have specialised in not paying any pensions ever
Quote:
31. PENSIONS
The group has not operated, or contributed to any pension scheme on behalf of its employees.

That must have been a nice charity to have worked for. I thought companies had to offer at least a stakeholder scheme. Presumably the new owners will let them join theirs, its even insured: http://www.opdu.com/members.html
Presumably they will get some pension stuff out of this scam on your taxes

I cant work out if this is going to be an engineering firm who does their own archaeology
http://www.wardell-armstrong.com/news/wardell-armstrong-strengthen-archaeological-and-heritage-service-with-npa-acquisition
or is it an archaeology firm that does engineering

Its amazingly good news for everybody David. It is the way forward for everybody and from such a bad starting point.
Somehow NP are a three year loss making operation apparently with a VAT problem and now a nice cuddly international mining company who apparently has been working closely and ?successfully? with NP for the last two loss making years thinks that they are a good buy (possibly a confidential deal or will it be in the NP heritage trusts accounts for next year?). Does anybody know of any other examples that might be in the pipeline of international mining companies who own ex council units and ??let? them keep their local council ?name?.
