A group of larger/medium sized companies sent a letter to Council asking for this relaxation - this suggests that they wish to pay less than the current minima ( which themselves are already lower than BAJR ) This also suggests that people on rates just now are looking at a drop in pay. Logic?
This will be a race to the bottom, as each company undercuts, to win the contract from the other company that undercuts, to win the contract, who... result? collapse. and decades of slow painful return to where we are even now.
They wrote to Council and presented their case... Now it is your turn.
remember... you have as much power as they do ( according to the rules of the IfA the member! not the company!

Just to maintain my anual cyclicalmight get banned for no apparent reason tuppence worth.
I am against these pay structures because all they do is mimick a public service unit structure in which nobody is called an archaeologist. The ifa should represent archaeologists and what an archaeologist is. I dont understand how these pay structures relate to people like hosty who appears to be selfemployed. Well bajr does run a jobs bullitin but this jobs bullitin is for employment positions which as the pay structure points out are not ever going to be called archaeologists.
What we need is a list of up and comeing contracts-little old ladies who in your area need hairy arsed archaeologists to go round thire houses and drink thier tea and maybe mow the front lawn in order to do a few simple very inexpensive evaluation trenches and get the whole archaeological experience rolling.
Dump the public servants out of the ifa baby, get rid of these stupid pay structures, the countries got a minimum wage, use it, baby.

I have sent my email. I think we need these minima to protect salaries. I love my job, but I need to afford to live as well! I really dont want to be forced to choose between my job and whether I eat. Plus how is this going to look to future archaeologists? If rising university fees doesnt put them off, this might and we may face a skills shortage in the future. Im not asking for a humungous pay rise, I am all for realistic salaries but I appreciate that times are tough. But the prospect of actually cutting salaries is just hugely worrying

EVERYBODY DO THIS:
overwhelm the IFA with phone calls and emails demanding;'
1- to see any documents/letters where this proposal has been argued.

Just when I am thinking things cannot get any worse, this really does not encourage those of us who have doubts about the IFA. This really does show us what is wrong with the industry. I am with Gnome King who are these companies what is their reasoning? Almost wish I was a member so I could protest through official channels. Maybe collapse of the industry is inevitable but it is heart breaking to see the members of an organisation that is supposed to support archaeologist showing their true colours (survival of commercial set ups at the expense of the employees and the archaeology). Let's hope the other members stand up against this.

Ok folks dont listen. Go ahead make up a lot of job titles like site assistances assistant first class and assign them arbitary salaries paid on minimum contract lengths so long as us self employeds get to charge what we like. Thank you for listening.
PS not sure if site assistances assistant first class are allowed to touch a dumpy without supervision, we will need a standard, no a degree wont do although if its a volunteer thats different..
