How do you regulate those jobs advertised on Twitter, Facebook and company web pages ?

i still think bajr should consider setting up an archaeological employment agency. you might not get the fully employed but should be able to get most of the short contract labour currently doing the rounds - especially those coming from europe. you could set the standard for wages, terms and training etc.
there is nobody i trust more and i would certainly use the service

Hope you're not suggesting an 'agency'! Judging by the construction industry that just results in guys on minimum wage working alongside people on double the cash, and lots and lots of bad atmosphere....

Aside from the legal regulations that govern employment agencies , BAJR would have to consider how to engage staff, almost certainly based upon a test of qualification and experience. He might also have to apportion prospective job seekers into categories or grades based upon those qualifications and experience, so as to maximise their earning potential. He could also come up with a snappy title for the agency that demonstrates how advanced his agency is over any other...maybe something like 'In Front Archaeologists'... .he'd have to be careful though in case the agency was ever reduced to just its initial letters ... just pondering on a sunny day!

I assume we now ignore the jobs evaluation benchmarking exercise in 2007/8 and the IfA resolution to address the fact that pay at the lowest grade lagged 13% behind its nearest comparator in other professions. Looks like this is to be swept under the carpet, IfA/FAME/Propsect re-positioning to ensure no organisation/institutional responsibility and a normalising of employment conditions structured on low pay. Further consolidation of a marginalised 'profession'......

But would have to find a way of getting around the fact that a contractor can just then employ a load of volunteers or trainees or indeed non-archaeologists and/or non-company archaeologists to fill the positions at their preferred low wages.

The workforces on these big infrastructure jobs are padded out with cheap agency labour, even foremen and the like being paid s**t, don't be fooled by the fact that they're issued with PPE bearing the main contractor's logo, they aint on main-contractor contracts or getting paid main-contractor wages! The big construction firms only have limited full-time workforces, they get the rest from a down-trodden shared pool
