Or maybe just those who wish to submit them for scrutiny?

I am thinking about including a section on UK Community archaeology on Past Horizons Projects section. Do you think this might get around the council problem? Each person responsible for community archaeology could have a password and they could edit their projects whenever they wanted to. It would also be extremely easy to add a project when a new one comes up. Photographs would have to be emailed to me as jpgs for inclusion. If it was made a central point where everyone came to look for what was on in their area maybe it would take on a life of its own.
What do people think?

In principle I think it's an excellent idea but (there's always a but), my council, if the council was identified as the originator of the project, would still want to retain power of veto over everything I wanted to post; even on an external website and might not let me post on an external website at all.

It is a bit tricky then. It seems a bit strange that what is mean't to be a public service is treated in this way. There would probably be nothing to stop Past Horizons announcing the information in a general way. For example giving details of the webpage to access at the council and the email contact details for the community archaeologist.

My situation is much like that of Wibblehead,

We virtually had to resort to breaking knuckles to get one of the community archs on the web course and appropriate permissions to update the site. It's only because of that really that we appear on the website at all. We got lucky i think! We still have problems with getting things approved, with the rigidity of corporate design, and with putting things on there that people can download.
We also have a new software programme for creating and updating webpages which doesn't work properly and a policy, in order to stop phishing, of only publishing generic department email addresses not person specific ones *sigh*. Past Horizons would be more than welcome to link to our webpage but I don't think it would be an especially pleasant experience for anybody viewing. An alternative might be for the groups we work with to host the information on their websites and for PH to link to them and not to us
