My revolutionary ideal would be to make this a truly united kingdom (well, preferably a republic) and have the same laws, education system and so on throughout England, Wales and Scotland.. maybe even Northern Ireland too... taking the best bits from each, not a take-over by any one. Save all this bickering.

Exactly Invis... England should stop bickering, and be fair ... after all, as you said - we are the United Kingdom.. all equal partners... with Scotland not being 'better' than England or Wales or NI... and England not being 'better' than Scotland, Wales and NI etc............................
England does have to come to terms with the fact it is not the same as Britian (heard it again on the Olympic coverage) - it is not interchangeable ...

Oh good lord no, couldn't include Yorkshire.
I like the fact that in the Olympics it's 'team GB' - just to increase the chances of getting some medals one presumes or because no-one cares enough to worry about national rivalry within the UK. You can imagine the fuss if it was suggested that we had a GB football team rather than all the separate ones, mind you, it might give us a better chance of getting somewhere!

'team GB' oh gawd yes.... though I note that the word scottish creeps in when we lose... (well... we are good at it) and 'english sport' is often praised
its all silly...

Big thanks to CBA for the quick edit of the page to better reflect the UK.
Nicely done, and actually adds an extra layer of interest as well.
hope you did not mind the well meant BAJR ribbing (oooer)

Dear Mr Hosty
Although being of mixed (both Welsh and European blood), I am a true Scotiaphile (if there is such a word?).
Should Scotland go independent, I'll be applying for immediate residency (in fact... refugee status). Lovely scenery, decent people, excellent archaeology and... well... the chance to be nearer the birthplace of Caol Isla and Ardbeg.
Hmmm... just need a job!

Have they changed it? Well done, that was quick.
I thought BAJR ribbing was illegal! I'd keep that to yourself if I were you.

Having studied both north and south of the border, my question is: why would anyone north of the border, given the choice, move south? Three versus four years study, fees versus grants, not to mention travel costs home.
I did know someone who did it - but we were all agreed at the time he was mad!

Sorry, I think that if the Scots have their own Parliament then they should also collect their own taxes and set up their own education system, I cant of two little words that are well understood both sides on the border...
