I am not a student and its a roman conferance is in the UK
I've looked around CBA & BAJR but can't seem to find anything really
Any help would be great

I take it you have looked through this section -
http://www.bajr.org/BAJRResources/Funding.asp
with conference grants section
http://www.bajr.org/BAJRResources/FundingConference.asp
It will all depend on what you want to do...
I can't think of any other place to look, as if BAJR or the CBA don't have it... it probably don't exist
if others do exist, please let me know.
BAJR is a big site... and I continually struggle to work out how to open up its far corners...
suggestions?

If it is a specific conference they normally have some bursaries for travel and accommodation etc etc. This is normally limited to students, post grads and 'early career' professionals. Its pretty hard to get to a conference for free if you are just a normal archaeologist.
Some units have a conference fund and support staff going to conferences, especially if giving a paper. Although I guess such funds are under pressure right now.
If you give a paper at the conference you may get a bursary -I've wangled that sometimes. Try phoning the organiser and trying to blag it?
If you're not a student then it is really quite difficult.
Good luck

You could also try the 'volunteer to help at the conference route' which normally gets you in for free although don't necessarily cover the ancillary costs. Or try only going to value for money conferences. Can I suggest TAG at Durham this Christmas where we are all meeting for a BAJR drink-up ..... aint we?

I'm going to that! missed out on the one in Sevilla by a week, but get to do a talk in Newcastle, wahay!
Have you tried contacting the organisers directly? There may be some bursaries left, they have been very helpful to me. It sounds as if you are contemplating a phd or masters, if you have a proposal for what you want to research, try getting a poster together and maybe see if you can get in for a day; a poster would be good experience getting your proposal together in a coherent visual form, and be good to do even if you don't get to go. Say why and what you want to see etc. Do you have someone who can be an academic referee, or professional reference and who knows about your planned research? Can you offer to help out setting up? You may have to pay your own travel and accomodation, but you may be able to get a free day pass to conference if you put your mind to it and demonstrate a valid reason.
Good luck and maybe see you there

Brilliant advice there bob...
I can only add the following... (having worked on many of these Limes and with many of those attending)
You could also go as a reporter for Past Horizons, creating a coherent, condensed and well written article about the conference. ... that may also help.

Thanks for the help, i'll e-mail them now and see that what they say. As for the Academic referance i think that could be a goer to
Its for a MPhil if i get it, the feild work aspects will still happen and i'll just submit to journals and HER, its only going be survey this year but i am all ready in talks in invovling local groups for excavtion as well as trying to find funding for conservation and diplay for a local heritage trail.
David if i get to go to the conferance i would be more than happy to do a report (although coherent may be pushing it)
I did get intouch about some advice for the public archaeology aspects, but i never phoned you back sorry about that i got tempory promoted and it just got to hectic. If we can arrange something again that would be great
Thank you all again i'll keep you informed about any positive progress
