a distraction-amazing or ridiculous?

As we are all gearing up for next years` BAJR conference and beavering away at putting the machinery of change in place-here`s a light-hearted look at some of the most amazing or indeed, the most ridiculous finds made on site. I`ll kick of then. I found a 1977 "Snoopy" car air freshener beneath Roman architecture. A mate of mine, came across a blue and white Walkers (salt and vinegar) crisp packet beneath Roman architecture. I was talking to my boss today who told me of a curious find made in a Med pit. A dogs nose. Not the pooch, just it`s snotbox. Bonkers.....

Nothing massively ridiculous comes to mind at the moment but I have been asked to do odd things with some finds. On my uni training dig, which will remain nameless, I was told by the supervisor, a disdainful third year who took everything far too seriously, to 3D record fragments of a Morris Minor headlight that was found in the topsoil. And No, he wasn't taking the P.

I knew that the "My dog's got no nose" joke was old, but I didn't realise it had potential medieval origins!

I found a crisp packet in a Roman Drain under 2m of strat (brought in by Rats as the drain was still viable), and got all nostalgic about finding a "Marathon" wrapper in an engineers' test pit dating from the mid 80's. Best find ever was a realistically-moulded rubber section of female anatomy, complete with battery attachment and pump, in the overburden on a building site in Reading. I didn't have the nerve to put it in a finds bag though...

At Raglan castle I found a big pile of religous paraphenalia, burnt paper pamphlets from the 1970's evangelical meetings,and this was over a metre down in a previously unexcavated gate house.
Also a plastic Kermit keyring from a roman context, below a cobbled floor, can't even begin to explain how he got there, unless the romans liked the muppets!!
