Prior to YP starting this thread, (according to the Guinness Record book 1970 edition) the most cryptic written dialogue was between the author Victor Hugo and his publisher. After the release of his latest book Hugo telegrammed his publisher '?'. To which the publisher replied '!'

There was an American author on the Today programme a while back who had written a book consisting of five chapters. Each chapter contained words only including a single vowel, so Chapter 1 was called "A", 2 was called "E" etc.
Not sure it made the bestseller lists.
