Please be careful when applying for jobs on the BAJR jobs page. I applied for a personal tutor job for a disabled foreign exchange student doing an archaeology module, the student and his mother seemed satisfied and happy with my work. Until I put my invoice in and they disappeared without trace, and it all unravelled as a front for someone to get through a module without putting any work in.

Strong words indeed... the advert was not put onto the BAJR advert page as it was not clear about many things. I had tried to contact them to discuss the rather strange advert.. but they never replied... hence they were not allowed to advertise.
Checking the rss feed for the time which automaticly puts up every advert.. and checking the Facebook page, which automaticly puts up every advert... its not there. So how you got hold of the advert is a mystery. Normal protocol is to discuss comments like this first... sorry you decided that the AUP is for some-one else. Now .. before we go too far on this... do remember who you are, what you are doing and why you are doing it.
The only reason I have kept this post online is to ask a) how did you see a BAJR advert that was never made live and b) BAJR takes adverts seriously... and in over 4000 adverts over 10 years it very very rarely makes mistakes... because if BAJR is in any way suspicious... and this is often because of a new company I have never heard of... or strangely written adverts... etc.. it don't make it. .. because at the end of the day - BAJR protects people.... you needed help on this... this was not the way to go about it. :face-confused:

I remember who I am, what I'd doing is trying to make a living and why I am doing this is to make sure no-one else gets ripped off the same way. I know I need help on this but I've heard nothing from you since I phoned and told you about the situation. You seem convinced that this advert never went up on BAJR, I've already assured you that it was up on BAJR and that's where I got it from. To verify this type the first part of e-mail address that the advertiser in question used into Google in inverted commas (the surname then the first name separated by a dot), then put the word 'tutor' after it and search, you will see that the third result is an old record from the BAJR jobs page.

I know you try your utmost to protect people and perhaps I should have qualified my statement to include all archaeology jobs postings and not just BAJR. But at the end of the day BAJR is one person, they are not infallible or some kind of demi-god, mistakes do occur and things slip past, and then who protects us? Please don't take this as a personal aside or be overtaken by paranoia, you don't have a monopoly on trying to protect people, that would be a protection racket.

i never saw that advert - and normally check at least once a week to see whats happening - if by some chance it did go up, i never saw it so it could not have been up for long
if it went out, and then was removed because of uncertainties, then this complies with Standards of Practice for moderated forums, in the same way that breaches of AUP might go live for a short period before being censored - i dont think BAJR has dropped the ball here (at least not for long)

You are sadly not trying to protect people. rather frighten them... if you try the link you suggest.. you don't actually get an advert..
I don't take it as personal.. I just wonder what you are trying to achieve. You did indeed phone me.. and I did offer help... in so much I was even prepared to visit the university.. you were supposed to get back to me.
You are in a strange position... being a person who applied for a job that did not make it onto BAJR... how you did it is still a mystery. however.. the argument is not about that.. as it is of great interest to work out how you saw it. As without any doubt... nobody was supposed to see this advert. There are other ones as well that have not made it.. (niver had anyone tell me about these) What you are saying is that you saw an advert that no-one was supposed to see.. and some-how this brings the whole of BAJR into disrepute. As I said in my first post... mistakes do happen.. and thats life.... however, you did have to get back to me... you never did. You credit me with too much as trying to protect everyone... I do my bit... as much as I can... that's all one man can do. :face-huh:
And thanks Gnome... what worries me is how anyone saw this advert.. as this becomes a breach of security.... and also exposes adverts that don't make the grade.. as they remain on the database....

Here's a screenshot taken just now, this links to a job post that has since been deleted, but even the displayed result specifies the post required and still gives the e-mail address to apply to. How was this record created if there was never an ad? I can assure you again that there was an ad and that I check the jobs page once or twice daily. I spoke to you on a Friday, you said you were going into Edinburgh on Monday and would look into it, as I remember it you were going to get back to me, can you tell me now what happened at the University that Monday? I also think I might have mentioned it to you in passing at the time of applying for the post as I put you down as one of my referees, but in all honesty I may be mistaken on this last point.

I've removed (after saving) the image of the ad in question until the issue can be handled by the admin. I will point out that finding something on Google is not the same as finding it on the website itself, as Google makes snapshots of things that may not exist anywhere else than their archives. I have constant examples of visitors to my site who are clicking on a link that may be a year or more old, and not even in existence on my site, but Google holds a snapshot of it.
As for the rest, I'll leave it to the admin to address.

It may simply be a ghost in the Google machine. I routinely have visitors to my site that are clicking on links that have been caught by the Google bot and stored, but no longer exist on the site itself.
