Just popped in folks after a year(ish) of self imposed exile from BAJR.
I might as well not have bothered. How many angels can you get to sit on a pin~head? I'll disappear now for another year or so, don't want to see the torrent of vitriol that I'll face for stating the obvious. Just sit behind your computers and whine to each other, nowt'll ever get done, people in archaeology are far too spineless and self seeking for that. Maybe I'll pop in again next year, bet I see the same old arguments going around interminably, same old platitudes, same old self defeating attitudes. Treat yourselves to it.

Do you think that most archaeologists and archaeological companies have been deafening in their silence in the face of the potential threat to our profession from the government plans? that is, if there is a threat- and not just a few scaremongers?

Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not too bothered Dave about what the companies think.
I remember when Carlisle Archaeology went tits up. We'd worked for 3 years on that excavation and another copmpany moved in to do the post-ex. 90% of the staff was made redundant.
All the accumulated knowledge that had been incorperated within the firm was dispersed immediately and the academics moved in, who didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
So, I don't think that most Archaeological firms are deafening to any government plans. I'ts a horrible reality that most archaeological firms are

If it's all so bad, way did you stop even longer to start a thread moaning and complaining, why don't you do some thing usful with your time or are you proving your own statement that archaeologist are spineless and self seeking
Archaeology is the peeping Tom of the sciences It is the sandbox of men who care not where they are going; they merely want to know where everyone else has been.
