Hey everyone. Ran the numbers for the 2012-13 Jobs in British Archaeology article i.e. measuring pay based off of job postings. It might be a little while before it gets published and I figure some people might find the information interesting before it goes to out of date. Any feedback on the draft would be greatly appreciated. Any questions ask away.

I think that you should knock what ever this survey is on the head. Put up a RIP sign. Where are the academics and where are the self employed? Its dire. The crap world of the haven't got a clue what copyright, pension grabber, look mummy I am an archaeoxreripts, saddos world of jobs worth. Just out of interest Doug which one are your on you chart, a technician?

There's a Senior Manager somewhere on £70k? Who do these people work for? Coz I want a job there....

There were a couple last year from EH and National Trust- heads of blah blah. The 70k and higher numbers this year are for chief executives of some very large trusts.

Sorry doug about the agro but I get the feeling that you are academic/establishment "funded" and I don't get the sense that these people are academic/establishment in this survey and therefore why is the survey bent in this way. Supervisors, project officers, illustrators, technicians- just who the hell is an archaeologist? How do you and I talk together on the same level?

I'm an archaeologist, wield a trowel and some supervisory duties as well...
Thanks Doug, the DF will find this useful and so will the IfA in working out the 'recommended' minima rises for 2014.
A lot of work goes into this, thank goodness someone has funding to do it. Nobody else bothers!

Welcome Sadie. Very glad people are finding it useful. Though this is all done on my free time, I am not funded :face-crying:.

I too find it useful for much the same reasons as Sadie suggests.....but maybe Doug you could clarify one thing (because I am sure there are some people reading this who aren't seeing the whole picture)...Am I right in thinking that the Jobs in British Archaeology survey is based entirely upon jobs that have been ADVERTISED in the period 2012-13 and isn't necessarily an indication of wage levels within the profession as a whole? I'm not suggesting there is a great deal of difference, except that my experience is that most advertised jobs are at the lower end of the pay scale and most staff already in post receive a little bit more (sometimes a lot lot more)...
