Taken from Britarch today. Remarkable. Make of it what you will. David, you should be proud of being the only'lefty' standing in the country!
verbatim quote:
I admire Karl-James Langford, for placing his career on line and exposing the IFA for the LEFT WING organisation it actually is.
Karl-James Langford at no point was in any position to employ anybody for site work. That was my job. In fact Karl-James just pointed out on the Brit Arch forum that he wouldn't employ a member of a trade union or someone with strong socialist opinions. That is his right in a democracy to make those statements. The IFA is clearly not democratic. Then he was reported to the IFA by two known left wingers, and one of whom, I refused to employ years ago on an interview panel for their left wing views of Archaeology.
Also he had a right to use a paid volunteer on an excavation, how afterall are volunteers to work in this country, when the IFA stops any one getting experience on IFA member run projects.
Its best now, that the IFA is not the home for archaeology, after all it accepts the likes of David Connelly a radical left winger in its ranks who can say what he likes and get away with what he likes on his website. But of course the IFA would not expel him because he's a lefty.
I personally wouldn't have a trade unionist anywhere near me. And certainly would not want a socialist upsetting my workers on excavations, and filling their heads with rubbish.
OR YES, AND LASTLY Karl-James was not thrown out of the IFA for bad archaeological practice, infact nobody has ever questioned his competence. This is all a deliberate attempt to crucify an up and coming Liberal politician and archaeologist. The IFA now stands for, 'WE WILL KEEP CORRUPT ARCHAEOLOGISTS, AND NEVER EXPEL THEM AS MEMBERS, INFACT THE IFA ENCOURAGES BAD PRACTICE ON PROJECTS, HOW MANY OF ITS MEMBERS HAS IT EVER EXPELLED FOR BAD ARCHAEOLOGICAL PRACTICE?' After complaint after complaint from the public and other ifa members. I know in 2005/6 none were expelled, and through its history less than two spring to mind ever have. When we all know, and have read on this forum that there is so much mal - archaeological practice.
Its about time there was a body that was not run by communists, and for the better good of archaeology.
I rest my case.
Don't come to me for a job unionists and socialists.
HOWEVER THESE ARE NOT THE OPINIONS OF ARCHAEOLOGY CYMRU, in anyway shape or form.
Mike Cairns Baincroft PhD Assistant Archaeologist Archaeology Cymru Consultancy Ltd.,
Signed also by
Mr. Jones a member of the IFA I haven't given my full name, to save myself being expelled from the IFA, before I hand in my resignation which will be in the next two weeks.

News:
Quote:quote:Negotiations between local government employers and the trade unions will not begin until January 2007 and could take some time. It is possible that the scales will not be available until after 1 April 2007.
As the minima pay scales for PIFA,AIFA,MIFA are based on Local Goverment scales, there could be a bit of a wait this year. Is this being considered?
Difficult to budget for if you have to tender for jobs months in advance.
On the Wakefield Unison Site http://www.wakefield-unison.org.uk/pay_consultation.htm , they explain the background... and amusingly :face-huh: are asking for :
Quote:quote:In conclusion, the UNISON NJC Committee agreed to consult branches on the basis of the following:
A percentage increase of 3.5% or 5%
BAJR is also requesting a 5% rise... rather than an inflationary rise...
Some other figures for your delictation
Quote:quote:Economic and Other Factors
Below are the headline figures for your consideration.
# RPI 3.4%, CPI 2.5% - August 2006
# Predicted inflation of 3.0% for 2007
# Average earnings increase across whole economy was 3.7% in quarter to July 2006
# Predicted earnings growth, 4.3% over 2007
# Government policy re public sector pay is to limit increase to 2%
Household costs
The overall price paid for fuel and light in real terms has risen to 12%. Household water bills have increased by 11% since January 2006. Council tax bills have risen on average by 4.5% this year.

"The following has been posted by the IFA on their website
http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/news/ Archaeology News : Disciplinary investigation results in expulsion of a PIFA member of the IFA
Posted by ifa_alex on 4/1/2007 15:32:06 (178 reads)
Following an investigation into two allegations of misconduct against Karl-James Langford PIFA (4549) the Executive committee of the IFA agreed with the findings of the Disciplinary Panel that Karl-James had been in breach of a number of clauses of the IFA Code of conduct.
These included Principle 5, in particular rules 5.1 and 5.7 that:
5.1 An archaeologist shall give due regard to the requirements of employment legislation relating to employees, colleagues or helpers.
5.7 An archaeologist shall have due regard to the rights of individuals who wish to join or belong to a trade union, professional or trade association.
and Principle 1, in particular rules 1.1 and 1.12
1.1 An archaeologist shall conduct himself or herself in a manner which will not bring archaeology or the Institute into disrepute.
1.12 An archaeologist has a duty to ensure that this Code is observed throughout the membership of the Institute, and also to encourage its adoption by others (see note on Rule 1.12).
As a result the Disciplinary Panel recommended that Karl-James Langford be expelled from the Institute, and this sanction was again agreed by the Executive committee.
Following notification of the sanction, Karl-James Langford put forward an appeal to the Council of the Institute (clause 27 of the Disciplinary regulations) and this was considered at the last meeting on 11 December 2006. Council found the appeal to be frivolous and/or vexatious and therefore upheld the sanction agreed by the Executive committee.
Karl-James Langford has therefore been expelled from the Institute with immediate effect. "

Flintknapping Workshops for the new year |

Learn a new skill
Workshops
I have been teaching and demonstrating the art of Flintknapping for many years now to both professional bodies and the general public. I am passionate about keeping the art of Flintknapping alive as this was a skill that is thought to have been forgotten (certainly in Europe) since the end of the Bronze Age. It is encouraging to see that interest in these skills is increasing alongside interest in both archaeology and bushcraft.
A Flintknapping workshop always proves to be an extremely enjoyable day for both the students and myself, learning how our ancestors created and used their tools to survive. This serious experimental education is often carried out while having something of a giggle along the way.
Workshops can be arranged to cater for children (as young as 8 years old) through to all ages of adults and they include:-
Production of prehistoric tools with âone-on-oneâ tuition with Karl.
Students are welcome to keep all of the tools that they make during workshops which (depending on level of experience) will include arrowheads, spearheads, hand-axes, scrapers. I have never had a student leave empty-handed or disappointed with their progress. All will take at least on replication of a prehistoric too home that they have made, guaranteed!
Workshops run from 10am to 4pm on Weekdays or weekends and can be arranged around your commitments.
Your photograph will be taken and (with permission) added to those posted on this website.
This really is a once in a lifetime experience as there are very few professional flintknappers in Britain providing tuition in this unique art.
Flintknapping Workshop Vouchers are also available for that unique gift. Great for the person who has everything, but IDEAL for those with an interest in archaeology, history or bushcraft.
Day Workshop = £100 (this can include up to 3 people)
Weekend Workshop = £175 (this can also include up to 3 people)
