  DBA, method statement, project design
Posted by: troll - 1st January 2007, 04:05 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (125)

With increasing frequency, small units are foregoing the preparation and delivery of dbas/method statements and project designs. After enquiring as to why this is, I was told that to be competative and have any hope of winning contracts, small units pare down their tenders by ommitting some stages of the process. As a result, I have been a part of a good few excavations where the team arrive on site-have no idea of what is there-dig it how they see fit and then leave. One notable Principal Arch who had been with the same unit for some time informed me that he had not seen any of the above in over twenty years. How ubiquitous is this? This surely makes a mockery of standards and professionalism and obviously is encouraged by a commercial environment that is left un-mauled by an institute offering optional standards. How widespread is this?

happy christmas and a muddy new year

Hope everyone has had good christmas. Big Grin Have taken opportunity of break to explore the net.. Has anyone else noticed that archaeological solutions has quitely reappeared as an RAO? Same staff, same standards etc ?? During the ban they were allowed to trade, not fined, and after a short break allowed to rejoin?? shouldn't a report by the IFA be available showing the findings, and how it was dealt with? Whitewash springs to mind.

  HELP!
Posted by: rachstebbs - 29th December 2006, 06:06 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (15)

Hello all,
was hoping someone may be able to point me in the direction of any literature concerning the importance of water (preferably rivers) in the Neolithic/Bronze Age... All i can find are statements that say yes water was important, and then no explanation as to why.

Thanks very much

RACH

So, what does it for you? Can you open the curtains without gettin out of bed on boxin day morning? Give the missus a centre -parting uninvited? In general, it seems that most sites have their own phantom farters, often on hand to emmit at the most innorportune moments.Sprouts seem to produce quality high notes and the baritones can be prompted with a bit of chrissie pud. What does it for you? Whats the recipe?Big Grin

  How to wash pottery
Posted by: Pedant - 22nd December 2006, 04:43 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (3)

Quick wash programme. 40 degrees, 2 Persil gel tablets, one calgon tablet and a capful of fabric softener...

Have just emptied the washing machine of a couple of jackets plus assorted other site gear, and at the bottom was a beautifully washed (and very small) sherd of possibly Late Iron Age pot[:I]

Must've come out of my other half's pocketBig Grin couldn't have been mine!!
