Archaid - tom wilson - 7th March 2007 The Pretenders? The Pre-tenders? 'In the busy market there are fortunes to be won and lost, but in the cherry orchard there is peace'. Chinese proverb Archaid - Cautionary Tale - 7th March 2007 Curiosity killed the Cable Avoiding Tool :face-confused: Perhaps this is something that the IFA/BAJR can be involved in (in conjuction with planning aid)? A monthly/bi-monthly circular/news item to contractors/consultants advising them of any cases such as this :face-huh: I maiali sono alimentati e aspettano per volare Archaid - the invisible man - 7th March 2007 Are there any situations where "archaeology" and the archaeological planning system should be ignored or given an easy ride No, there are not. The planning system, including the archaoelogical component, exists for a purpose, and should not be over-ridden or diluted under any circumstances. Whether grants should be available for "socially good" projects in order to enable the project is another issue of course, but the same controls must remain in place. We owe the dead nothing but the truth. Archaid - troll - 7th March 2007 Agreed completely. There are already far too many elements of our little industry that consistantly "ignore" archaeology and the planning system anyway. It creates a profit margin and we laughingly describe it as a profession. Now, giving freely of your own time and talents is something else altogether-but, if I was to hear about a certain section of society in my area that were keen to push the hideously inadequate planning process to one side-I would be only too happy to deliver a few thousand screaming tax-payers to their doorsteps.Tiz bad enough as it is with some practitioners in our industry believing that they are somehow above "all that law stuff" without a consultant blurring the edges.Peter, either you are asking for help, aid and contribution or, you are toying with the rules as is your bent-which one is it?:face-huh: ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) Archaid - beamo - 7th March 2007 Trowelhead You may have been close to the mark in suggesting that Coldplay could be part of a benefit gig for poor archaeologists. The Coldplay drummer Will Champion is the son of Tim Champion (Prof of Arch - Southamnpton Uni) and the late Dr Sara Champion. Will recently opened the new archaeology department building at Southanpton University, and Coldplay's first album is dedicated to Sara Champion. Beamo Archaid - 1man1desk - 7th March 2007 Quote:quote:When you said Archaid I thought you ment like a benefit concert for poor archaeologists, who would play I wonder, "COLD"play, MUDDY waters, come on people anymore!! What about one of our very own - 'The Beautiful Sith'! 1man1desk to let, fully furnished |
