I was thinking that there must be roughly about the same number of professional footballers in the UK as there are archaeologists. So why have I never ever (purely by chance) met another archaeologist on the train or a plane?
There I was this morning at 6.30 going through security control at Stansted airport and who was standing in front of me in the queue? West Ham manager Alan Curbishley, that's who!!

Yes, but Alan Curbishley and lots of other football types are on the TV every so often, so you'd easily recognise them. To "meet" another archaeologist purely by chance in the same way, you'd either have to talk to everyone on your journey, or else luckily be on the same flight/train as Mick Aston or Julian Richards.
Personally, my score is 1-1. I met another archaeologist on a march in London, and got drunk with Terry Yorath in a bar in the Middle East.

My cousin (a Portsmouth fan) was once on a plane with Ron Atkinson (at the time he was Sheff Wed manager), after exchanging a few pleasantries my cousin was then upgraded leaving Big Ron behind - cheeky blighter tried to call it an omen of relegation! (He was right by the way!)

A friend of mine at Sheffield Uni was wandering through the town centre one day with his mate, when he saw an advert in the window of Boots the Chemist offering free Sheffield Wednesday season tickets. He went into Boots to claim his free ticket, but came out with a giant size packet of condoms.
His mate said 'I thought you were going in for the Wednesday season ticket'. My friend said 'Yeah so did I, but there was a woman behind the counter and I was too embarrassed to ask'
