"role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - the invisible man - 4th January 2006 If the case is the one I'm thinking of, I understand that the offence was not actually the one being bayed about, but a technicality that only the IFA could have known about. As I've wittered on about before, active policing is not a viable proposition, in the sense that I understand it to be meant in these discussions. I stand to be corrected but I can't think of another profession that has institutional policeman popping in to inspect work in progress on a reguklar (or irregular) basis. Generally they are all reactive, and respond to reports or complaints - often by other members of the profession keen to maintain the integrity of that profession. We owe the dead nothing but the truth. "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - BAJR Host - 4th January 2006 I agree with 1 man... BAJR and the IFA are different... What we have to do is define roles and then work together. my application goes in as soon as I get my publications sorted. As a curator I would also like to see firmer and standardised guidlines for monitoring work as well as producing specs. I believe enough in the potential of the IFA as the glue to hold together the archaeology of the UK... Another day another WSI? "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - Sparky - 4th January 2006 "The Institute is a democratic organisation run by an elected Council supported by committees responsible for standards, career development and training, working practices, membership validation and appeals, Registered Archaeological Organisations, conferences and publications." An elected body voted by its members. There is an easy way to change it. Join it and vote off the dead wood and bad pennies and put in people who can change the stale ways of the last 20 years. By the way, I'm not a member nor do I want to advertise any apparent greatness but its becoming the best solution. "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - Sparky - 4th January 2006 By the way, my reference to dead wood and bad pennies was purely metaphorical and bares no resemblance to any members of the IFA committees. "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - Sparky - 4th January 2006 Honest! "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - BAJR Host - 4th January 2006 Nice save there sparky. ... Another day another WSI? [:o)] Of the Clan Sutton "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - Sparky - 4th January 2006 ...and elected council members. B) "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - troll - 4th January 2006 Will have to go and have many fags before I respond to you all.Just as a quick taster-if the crowning glory of the IFA has been simply to define standards that they cannot police and, that they have been silent on all the ills affecting archaeology today-what`s the point of their existence and why should any of us pay for nine jobs to do nothing? ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) "role is fulfilled by the IFA..." - muddyandcold - 4th January 2006 Quote:quote:Originally posted by BAJR Host Yes the IFA talks, but amoung themselves!!!
