Do you know I was considering joining the IFA..just for a moment after all the debate about David applying, I was starting to think maybe I've been wrong for the last 16 years; but this is all too familiar. The IFA dont seem to understand that by having members like this guy and not acting to enforce their own standards, they implicitly endorse this kind of behavior and this reflects badly on all their members and on Archaeologists in general.

Do you know for a fact that action is not being taken? Do you know for a fact that the matter has been brought to the attention of the IFA, or have you lodged a formal complaint?

As I understand it, the complaints about this company on this forum derive from adverts/statements that only appeared within the last month or so and might not have come to the IFA's attention immediately. Are you saying the IFA should have initiated and completed an investigation and taken disciplinary action within that time?
Not possible I am afraid - no matter how bad he is, any accused person is entitled to due process and a chance to defend him/her self. And, even if the result is that a complaint is upheld, stripping him of his membership is the ultimate sanction; there are less drastic actions available as well.
So, what exactly is your gripe against the IFA? That they have not taken unfair summary action without an investigation?

You are absolutely right of course 1man1desk. Due proccess must be observed. I was foolish and apologise unreservedly to any IFA members I may have offended.What I meant to say was that it is a shame that by being the only recognised industry representatives with a clear code of practice and ethical standards, the IFA can be used by unscrupulous people who dont neccessarily adhere to those standards to add legitimacy to their endevours. I personally dont feel drawn to join the IFA as a matter of urgency, because, on reflection I would feel disappointed that the resultant additional letters after my name were shared by a minority of people within that organisation I considered to be gits.

The trouble is, Alfie, that any organisation will contain gits; that is why there is a disciplinary procedure.
If there were no gits, there wouldn't need to be standards or disciplinary procedures to enforce them - everyone would do a good job as a matter of course.
The whole point of joining the IFA is to voluntarily make yourself subject to the published standards and to disciplinary action if you transgress. If you don't join, you have not publicly signed up to any standards, and can practice as poorly as you like with impunity.

Just had to pick myself up off the floor.Exquisite.:face-stir:That said, 1man1desk, the sad reality is that IFA members of all levels can and have behaved in the manner you describe unfettered for years. Anyone can agree to standards.After that-hey, who sees what you do? Who polices what you do? On another note peeps, there may indeed be an investigation in progress and perhaps we should`nt tar this man`s barrel openly before any rolling? The IFA are only too aware of the need to be seen to be doing something.Perhaps a mechanism for open introspection is already in consideration?

I would urge anyone who believes Karl-James Langford to know anything whatsoever about history to read his book ' The Romans in the Vale of Glamorgan', which contains so many errors and baseless suppositions it is difficult to list them all.
Some of the more interesting ones are that Caratacus was converted to Christianity in Rome in AD 52, Llysworney was a major Roman town from AD 75 to 410 and the Romans built Christian churches in Wales during the 2nd Century AD.
Mr Langford is evidently delusional and I hope he is never allowed anywhere near any site of historical interest.
