IFA RAO enquiry - muddyandcold - 2nd June 2006

Wow, having just read the IFA news about unit in question... Was expecting another unit to be named?

Does anyone know how/why they lost their RAO status in first place? Was it merely a delay in registration? or is there some other reason??

IFA RAO enquiry - the invisible man - 2nd June 2006

What more do you want? An unauthorised use of the logo was reported to the IFA and the matter was dealt with. The infringement and outcome, together with the identity of the firm concerned, has been placed in the public domain. This seems to be a swifter piece of action than most other professional instututes! Hardly a case of toothless blutser, I would have thought.

If a firm is not an RAO but are contracted to work to those standards then it is not the concern of the IFA, but is a planning and/or contractual matter between the firm and the empoyer (via his consultant if appopinted) and the curator, as applicable.

We owe the dead nothing but the truth.

IFA RAO enquiry - BAJR Host - 3rd June 2006

Quite right Invisible... the requirement to ensure work is carried out to professional standards (when a company is an RAO or not) is the Curator.. ie people like me or Curator Kid... If you have a further problem, then they are the best place to start.

I think the IFA have shown that they are not toothless blusterers.. what would you do? Public hanging? It is better to deal with situations where the end result is that everyone comes to an amicable conclusion...... Confrontation is best avoided.. as a last resort.. as all that it achieves is further confrontation...

Perhaps I am getting older and wiser... but I am now of the mind that head on conflict is not the best solution to anything... resolution is best met with talking and co-operation.

peace and love folks!

Another day another WSI?

IFA RAO enquiry - troll - 4th June 2006

Said company was advertising on the IFA jobs bulletin soon after complaint was upheld. Their advert said" IFA membership preferred". Invisible-"what more do I want?" How about this.....

The Institute in question realises that behaviour of this sort exposes them to the critiscism seen before namely: they do nothing and further, they do it behind closed doors.Secondly, what message does this behaviour send out to prospective clients? Are RAOs to be trusted now? Has`nt this behaviour underlined the pantomime quality of an institute that claims to police its own? Whilst I agree-yes, they acted swiftly, I disagree that two cases of slapped wrists over membership/application irregularities over the years makes for an institute that can be taken seriously if this is the level of "policing" they have deemed necessary. In my view- tiz pathetic.Whats the point of my reporting such an incredibly important contravention if the end result is that said unit continues to be advertised on the institutes jobs bulletin?}Smile

But Troll, you do not say what you think should have happened. Neither you nor I know the exchanges between the IFA and the firm involved, but the outcome is that the offending activity has ceased. Perhaps a repitition would result in an injunction, I don't know, but as David says, hanging might be seen as exceesive. The IFA have not "done nothing", they have demonstrably done something and far from being behind closed doors the outcome and identities are on a public website.

Why should the firm not be permitted to advertise for staff, if they admitted the offence/mistake and rectified it? Is that not the object of the excercise?

As for the level of "policing", this is old ground. I know of know no institute that can, does or would "police" as I understand the word. All will however investigate complaints. Perhaps you are suggesting that some complaints gone uninvestigated? If so it may be that they were found to be unfounded (excuse clumsy grammar!)

We owe the dead nothing but the truth.

IFA RAO enquiry - 1man1desk - 5th June 2006

Quote:quote:Hmmmmm, well same old story then from the IFA.....or so it would appear from their website statement.....RAO being an important part of the IFA, a measure of the IFA quality ..... but, sadly, they (The IFA) do not appear to want to protect their own interest .... no policing of their own RAO logo and standards...... it would appear that they are all bluster and no teeth!..grrrr grrrr
Well, what do you want the IFA to do? There is no disciplinary action available to them, as the organisation is not an RAO. The only thing they could do is sue - risky, expensive, and is it worth it if they behave in future?

IFA RAO enquiry - drpeterwardle - 5th June 2006

How about a complaint to trading standards or similar?

Peter Wardle

IFA RAO enquiry - troll - 20th June 2006

Good day Dr Wardle. Not sure if that would have an effect as I`m informed that said unit does`nt actually have to tender for these contracts competatively. As an aside-my apologies to all.I have only yesterday returned to civilisation and as such, will be writing formal complaints to the IFA today.Bit late I know-but hey-circuit diggin and all that...I am still of the view that the IFA have been very helpful (to me) as has Mr Hosty on this issue. The IFA promptly sent me the appropriate standards/guidelines etc and paperwork with which to enter formal complaints.Much applause to those involved.However.....I would have expected more of a tenacious response from the IFA on the misuse of the RAO Kitemark issue-those of you out there that function under the auspices of the RAO accolade should rightly be jumping up and down over this. The actions of the unit in question can only have served as a dilution of what is seen as a stamp of professionalism and competence.Their actions(intentional or otherwise) have made a mockery of the IFA and may indeed have given potential future clients a very tarnished view of a validation system that many other professional and reputable units operate under.

IFA RAO enquiry - Pipeliner - 21st June 2006

Well said Troll !

HOORAY !!!!!!!!!

This has been my point through out this thread. A unit has made use of the IFA RAO Logo when they are not entitled to do so and by doing so, would appear to have potentially debased the value of the RAO Status.

So, as you say Troll, RAO Units should not be happy with this limp slap on the writs by the IFA - "we are reassured that it wont happen again" - its too late IFA , it has happened and you (IFA) have no idea how long it has been going on for either !!!!!!!!!!

Do the WSI's from this unit or letters to their Clients also suggest that they are (maybe) still an IFA RAO and are able to work to those RAO Standards?[xx(]

IFA RAO enquiry - BAJR Host - 21st June 2006

All I say is appropriate action was taken... the other comments about misuse of the IFA RAOmark do not reflect my findings. In the main ( and I use the word carefully) the letterheads have been used - with instruction to blank out the mark... (better than scrapping lots of paper) in some cases .. for whatever reason, this did not happen. It won't happen again, and does not seem to have been used for commercial gain. The IFA response was quick and proportinal..

should be enough I hope.

Another day another WSI?
