This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - BAJR Host - 17th March 2008 It is a huge, ongoing project, with lots of real outreach work going on in the Greater London area, especially in local schools, at the same time as the excavation. http://www.lparchaeology.com/prescot Marrying commercial archaeology with community access. sounds great to me... are there other projects like this? If there are... let us know.. we will add them to the Past Horizons List and provide a list in the next issue of the magazine http://www.pasthorizons.com/magazine makes me feel all warm inside ! Khufu This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - tmsarch - 22nd March 2008 The Canterbury Archaeological Trust are currently excavating a large site on the Isle Thanet in Kent ahead of the construction of Thanet Earth glasshouses which extend to some 90 hectares. The Canterbury YAC branch have been on-site to learn about fieldwalking, volunteers are welcomed to work on the site with the CAT team on Saturdays, Secondary School and University students are especially welcomed. Meanwhile CAT's own education officer has been touring local schools to tell them about the archaeology at Thanet Earth, plus there is a regularly updated website and local and national media coverage. http://www.canterburytrust.co.uk/thanearth.html All looks pretty positive to me. This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - BAJR Host - 22nd March 2008 Thanks for that.... perhaps there maybe a chance for a special section about what's on volunteer wise in the UK... Khufu This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - Dirty Dave Lincoln - 23rd March 2008 too many view archaeology from the developers point of being a problem and were just there to make the problem go away for them.Where's the excitement of exploring something new?call me old fashioned but i thought an archaeologists main (only) concern should be the archaeology. This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - Unitof1 - 24th March 2008 who is the sole responsible archaeologist for the project? it all seems a bit faceless This is more like it! - Community & Commercial - beamo - 25th March 2008 Does there need to be a sole responsible archaeologist? Perhaps now that fieldwork is underway any further decision-making is a collective concern involving the county archaeologist, the consultant archaeologist and the contracting archaeologist (and maybe the client)?
