It is a huge, ongoing project, with lots of real outreach work going on in the Greater London area, especially in local schools, at the same time as the excavation.

The Canterbury Archaeological Trust are currently excavating a large site on the Isle Thanet in Kent ahead of the construction of Thanet Earth glasshouses which extend to some 90 hectares. The Canterbury YAC branch have been on-site to learn about fieldwalking, volunteers are welcomed to work on the site with the CAT team on Saturdays, Secondary School and University students are especially welcomed. Meanwhile CAT's own education officer has been touring local schools to tell them about the archaeology at Thanet Earth, plus there is a regularly updated website and local and national media coverage.

too many view archaeology from the developers point of being a problem and were just there to make the problem go away for them.Where's the excitement of exploring something new?call me old fashioned but i thought an archaeologists main (only) concern should be the archaeology.

who is the sole responsible archaeologist for the project? it all seems a bit faceless

Does there need to be a sole responsible archaeologist? Perhaps now that fieldwork is underway any further decision-making is a collective concern involving the county archaeologist, the consultant archaeologist and the contracting archaeologist (and maybe the client)?
