which is not so bad, though certainly not good, if the material is curated and accessible to other researchers, but terrible if it is subsequently discarded or reburied. I do sometimes think that there can be a reliance on unpaid students and researchers to do the work that should be done by a paid specialist and funded by the developer.

I think one of my implied points. (Not very well articulated I know) was what is the point of expensive finds analysis if the 'site' from which the stuff comes from (e.g. a poorly designed WB) can never be understood very well. Are we reverting to a sort of antiquarianism where the object is elevated to an extra historical force and context is irrelevant. Is this the logical conclusion of PPG16 when combined with post-processualism?
Ill just go and disappear up my own a*** now.

Developer "heritage" Insurance.Developer pays yearly premiums based upon the potential within their catchment areas, recent building record etc.
All developers required by law to carry this insurance.
Good in principle, but not all Developers are developers, if you see what I mean. Anyone can submit a planning application.
We owe the dead nothing but the truth.
