Young lady in question goes by the name of Lucy. Ironic ay? Yet another Lucy to put a spanner in the works of accepted norms!
By the way, all who are interested in helping out with event-we should get together in field with tents and plot verily soon.wot sayeth thou?[:p]

I take the opposite view - the sooner the better. A small one day/one afternoon meeting discussing one or two topics would be about the right.
At present there is no idea of how many people will attend 10, 100, or 1000. This will make it very difficult to organise.

This is a fantastic idea. I am more than happy to help in any way I can, no matter how small. Power to the People or what?
Never met her, but Great idea Lucy
Let me know what needs to be done Troll, and whatever venue you choose for planning meetings etc should be fairly central so that those interested parties dont have vastly different distances to travel! Bring it On..........................B)

Dear BAJR.
Please make a decision on where and when.
Venue, a village hall a room over a pub will do. A musuem of learned society or university anything that is cheap.
Cost. A fiver a head to cover the hall and coffee.
Publicity a notice on BAJR what else is neccessary.
Booking - email a thread on this bulletin board first come first served.
Speakers - people who contribute to this site there are afterall curators, consultants, diggers, project managers etc who contribute.
Format short introductory papers and plenty of time for discussion. The actual paper and some comments could be posted on this web site and an e conference could then explore some of the things discussed.

I'd be happy to help too, in any way possible. Have some experience of organising small conferences and society type things a few years back, not to mention some wicked parties! Probably something to bear in mind is that big conferences take a long time to organise properly, it might be a good idea to follow Peter's suggestion and have a small event first, possibly a few in the run up to a bigger conference.
I imagine we're all spread out across the country too, and mainly fairly skintish, which might make for poor digger turnout in one main conference. How about regional one day affairs first to get the ball rolling?

A BAJR conference road show! Superb! Agreed-we`re all hideously skint. One of the motivations for putting off the big event until next year is that, I would like to see coachloads of heritage professionals turn up. I`m looking into funding potential to achieve such a thing. One of the benefits of staging small regional events is that firstly, regions can then present their agenda at the main conference next year and, issue local press releases outlining their demands! Sorry...concerns....
Think small regionals is a great idea-the last thing I would like to be involved in, is an annual event where only the same privalaged few are able to attend-monopolise issues and dictate to the remainder of the profession (IFA stylee). Regionals would provide an opportunity for all to put their quids worth in. Once next year is ready to go, would be nice to see the regional groups descend on the main conference. Accommodation issues and costs could be kept down by simply holding the main conference in a tented (festival type) environment. We all get together once a year!
