Insurance for Local Socs.

I have a question for you both: My society is having some insurance issues. We thought that we were covered for a skilled volunteer to run the hired digger, but it turns out that we are not.

The insurance guys want 3000 pounds per year to cover us. This is beyond the means of our small society, and I was wondering if you have any ideas? We have some rather deep digs coming up and, for the aging members of the society, it will be a hard go by hand.

There must be an insurance company in the UK that would be willing to cover a small society for cheap.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I thought about that... ( I even have a deal with another branch of the same company) where I got a good deal... maybe BAJR should offer Insurance though perhaps not !

So other options please... and perhaps an investigation about what is covered? We all use Towergate.. (do we?) has anyone looked closely at what is covered? Perhaps the CBA could look into this...

The cover that is being asked for is

"covered for a skilled volunteer to run the hired digger" ie drive a machine so the premium is for that type of activity so I am not surprised by the premium.

It will be cheaper to hire a driver as well the machine.

Better check that he's CITB qualified (and in date) as well, beacuse the plant supplier probably won't give him the keys if he's not.
