On a slightly different tack. I wonder what the circumstances are for some of the organisations that might/have gone under. In many cases that I have seen it has not been the profitability of the companies that was in question, it was cashflow or just plain not-getting-paid.
The way most commercial bodies work often means that they pay out for staff, plant etc etc up front, invoice when the submit the report and then wait to be paid (30 days if you're lucky - but usually far longer and sometimes never). On bigger jobs, clients expect you to at least suggest staged payments, but for a small organisation a make or break amount can be a couple of grand. And in small organisations, the company overdraft can be guaranteed on people's houses...... (Limited company or not, most banks won't lend unless you put something up as a guarantee).
So, on the post-ex side, it may well be that this money has never been received by the organisations involved. At least not in its entirety.

Ah, its just another pretend person who has had several names on this site... and britarch
I know him only too well, but he is well known....
I keep an eye on him, and his various companies and pseudonames
Just a big bully and has some unfortunate dislike of certain companies.. has now got in tow with another person down south. But in general... 'mostly harmless' as long as you get there first and get him.
I do some high end tracing on the ip address, and although he tries to hide his ip address it is quite easy to locate him. shall we say, that they are in a radius around... ah... best not say... as then they will know too much
just a trouble maker. but hey... if it give him a kick. Muddy helped me recently find another of his names. so thanks muddy.. :face-approve:

Kent Archaeological Projects are a small company in Kent (points for original name). I have never found them on the net but found out about working for them through word of mouth. Think they have only been going for 4 or 5 years.
4 inch archaeologist's pointing troll- the next big thing for small find management

There is something to be said for having users provide their real name on their profile-at least then we all know to whom we are talking to,and this could help to limit distasteful postings.
After all, when you look at my profile-everyone knos who I am!!!

In relation to the earlier part of this discussion on the post-excavation implications of units going out of business, this advice to administrators and liquidators from the IfA seems timely:

Good advice... lets hope it does not have to be enacted too often
