Time for a spot of reminiscing...
Anyone got any tales about old training excavations they used to go on? Were they all the drunken, drug-crazed, debauched days that I remember?!
Also, where have all the massive training excavations gone?
I used to go to Crickley Hill every summer to learn how to be an archaeologist; digging during the day and drinking all night - seems quite accurate! There would be over 100 volunteers there (numbers changing on a daily basis) from all over the world (one aussie had his trowel confiscated at the airport), all getting on rather well. Every wednesday several people would collect ?2.50 from everyone and then trundle into Cheltenham to buy booze to make some very good punch for one helluva party in the evening. Luckily Thursday was the day off [xx(] One week a hippy suggested we just bought 100 litres of lemonade and put a sheet of acid in the tub. He WAS being serious, but thankfully his suggestion was never taken up!
My nickname was 'Mark the Shark', for reasons I won't go into... [:I]
