If the case is the one I'm thinking of, I understand that the offence was not actually the one being bayed about, but a technicality that only the IFA could have known about.
As I've wittered on about before, active policing is not a viable proposition, in the sense that I understand it to be meant in these discussions. I stand to be corrected but I can't think of another profession that has institutional policeman popping in to inspect work in progress on a reguklar (or irregular) basis. Generally they are all reactive, and respond to reports or complaints - often by other members of the profession keen to maintain the integrity of that profession.

I agree with 1 man... BAJR and the IFA are different...
What we have to do is define roles and then work together.
my application goes in as soon as I get my publications sorted.
As a curator I would also like to see firmer and standardised guidlines for monitoring work as well as producing specs.
I believe enough in the potential of the IFA as the glue to hold together the archaeology of the UK...

An elected body voted by its members. There is an easy way to change it. Join it and vote off the dead wood and bad pennies and put in people who can change the stale ways of the last 20 years.
By the way, I'm not a member nor do I want to advertise any apparent greatness but its becoming the best solution.

Will have to go and have many fags before I respond to you all.
Just as a quick taster-if the crowning glory of the IFA has been simply to define standards that they cannot police and, that they have been silent on all the ills affecting archaeology today-what`s the point of their existence and why should any of us pay for nine jobs to do nothing?
