To reiterate the points I've made before, different drugs metabolise at different rates, so the only drug usually picked up is cannabis. This means in a nutshell that someone could be partying all weekend on harder class a drugs, take the sunday off go into work be tested and pass a test, equally this applies to alcohol. However, the tiredness / hangover will still be there which is a equally dangerous factor in safety critical jobs. Basically random testing is not effective and does not improve safety in the workplace by any notable degree, but makes employers seem to be taking positive action in relation to health and safety. I would prefer to see a more educational based approach to the issue.
