I should think the vote has been cast by now, today being the day of the IFA AGM. I suspect that the IFA is now officially the 'Institute for Archaeologists'.
Shortly they will move onto the wine reception...
I gather it was an overwhelming vote in favour for Institute of Archaeologists.
What I only noticed yesterday (because I never made it to the end of the resolutions until then) is it is now also Registered Organisation, they've dropped the 'Archaeological' on RAO. B)

Shock, horror... IFA in democratic decision making scandal... IFA represents their membership... or at least those who can be bothered to return a voting slip.

Slightly belated reply to Oxbeast, also ever so slightly off-topic (apologies):
You are of course quite right Beasty, if the archaeological contractor pretended to have carried out work that he had not, and thus misled his client and the curator. In my hasty reading and posting I had assumed that another party (a groundworks contractor) had machined away the deposits: obviously this would be a simple contractual matter. To falsify an archaeological report would however be both a contractual and a professional matter, and indeed a matter for the IFA if the organization was an RAO.

The new name and new logo are now in evidence on the IFA website.

I was about to say the same thing, and of course its Institute for Archaeologists (IfA) not of as I said earlier. Sigh. Not enough caffeine......
Also, RAO is now RO. As has been pointed out to me, the logo has always said Registered Organisation.

At last we can drop the pretence that they have anything to do with earning a living from being outside digging things up apart from exploiting anybody who does. It almost brings a tear to the eye. I feel that I can now draw a very clear line on the ground.
I can hear it now

Well there isnât one for what I do. Theres one for archaeologists but that does suggest that you were one before you joined. Pretty pointless really. And the truth is that the so called archaeologists in that association are the ones that have put the condition on your land. It would be a bit of a conflict of interest if I was part of it.
Now about my discard policy. If you cant see it, you cant pick it up, so theres nothing to discard. If I can see it I pick it up and keep it.
IFA discard policy. Whats in a name. What does it matter. One day we are this the next day we are that.

I'm old-school so I'm throwing my lot in with the Continuity IFA.

Hows about a break away organisation representing 'field' archaeologists - the AFLF (archaeological field liberation front), or, as suggested by hosty the 'provisional IFA' :face-huh: send responses offline. A dawn of a new era???
