BAJR has been working over the past year (to help the IFA implement these) by asking people to include in job adverts whether they will provide Pension - Holiday - Sickness benefit.
So now we have many of these benefits seen as a norm. This makes it easier for the IFA to bring them in as compulsory for RAOs. As BAJR will also be requiring Holiday and Sickness Rights for adverts (I am giving away too much here) Looking at many of the current adverts you will see Holidays and sickness. (often it is missed off due to accident - from April.. the form will not submit unless the box is checked) - Small point of order.... though it has to be said that it was the IFA that brought these to the fore. I must wait until end of next week to see what the Pay rise will be. Its no secret I want an above inflation rise - to bring about the Dignity Wage.
So for those that think there will be wholescale destruction of the archaeology industry... people are already getting sickness and holiday plus the base pay rates.
it works out to something like for every month you work you can have 1.6 days holiday (or get paid at the end of a short contract - its all in the contract)

So sadly we are in many ways just becoming either legal or moral.. take yer pick.
So currently you should as a basic Digger already get :
£13,854 (£266.42 per week) and have rights to SSP and Holidays (1.6 days a month) .. can't decide about pensions.. I leave that to legal people.
If you get a 2.5% payrise (estimated)...273.08 pw plus the above
if we go for a potential 5% rise = £279.74pw plus the above (so you get your 2.5% inflation rise of £6.66pw + an extra £6.66 a week)
or in year terms... 14,200.35 OR 14,546.7 (extra £346 quid above your inflation rise)
I say a pound a day rise is not much to ask.
I want to work with IFA and PROSPECT... it is best to provide a united front. So lets go for a 5% rise this year and the benchmarking can take place and for April 2008/09 we can make a real boost.

Under old rules, people could not start "earning" time-off until they had worked for 13 weeks.
However, since 25 October 2001 and following a European court ruling, workers can start earning paid leave from day one.
