I would say more archaeologists are "Marxist" not "Adam Smithist" as Marx has much more interesting things to say on exchange systems and supply and demand. We should remember he wrote "Das Kapital" after he visited Manchester (the most polluted city in the world at that time, also with the lowest live expectancy and chronic poverty) with Engels.
