Just one point - archaeological units that are stlll charities usually hold that status through their commitment to education and have to demonstrate this to the Charities Commission. That does not rule out such units from being able to help out in the circumstances that you are describing, but the educational aspects would have to be promoted. Just because a unit is a registered charity this does not mean that it has resources (staff or other) that can be made available free of charge.
