The outline plot for 'Frankenstein' was devised whilst Mary Godwin and Shelley were staying at Maison Chapuis in Cologny, Switzerland in 1816. It is possible that the novel was part written in Bath, as the couple visited there in 1816-17 at the time that Mary's sister gave birth to Allegra (the child of Lord Byron), but their main abode during this period was Albion House at Marlow Bucks. The Shelley's were living in Marlow at the time the novel 'Frankenstein' was published in 1818.
