I'd need to know more about the history of the National Archaeology event to give a definitive answer, but I suspect that it did start off as a national intitiative, but Scotland is now doing its own thing, as it is in so many areas. I think it's also fair to say that the English/Welsh July event is better-timed in relation to school holidays than it is back hame.
I'm currently taking part in a weekend event at Fort Cumberland in sunny Portsmouth, and we're having a great time. Any BAJR-ites in the area are welcome to come along tomorrow. It's free!
