My Classical education may be sadly lacking, but I don't understand how my previous statement can be considered to be argumentum ad hominem. Unit responded to my post by saying that tendering for work never happens in archaeology, then the next day says that he's been involved in tendering for work. I didn't state that this inconsistency invalidated all his other arguments, I merely pointed out that this one statement was a flat-out contradiction of what he said yesterday. I appreciate that everyone is entitled to change their views over time, but as I said, the statement that tendering never happens in archaeology is demonstrably not true, as Unit himself has indicated. This doesn't speak to the validity or otherwise of other statements he has made, and I did not attempt to use any of this personal beliefs or characteristics to suggest that his premise was incorrect, I just pointed out that in this one instance, he'd made my argument for me by confirming that tendering does indeed happen in archaeology.
To get back on topic, I would say again that I simply belief that having a standards and guidance document that sets out what HERs should do is no bad thing.
You know Marcus. He once got lost in his own museum
