Be fair, loads of people even here on BAJR have had a go at them for having 'Field' in the name but having archaeologists who aren't in the field. This raises its head practically every year, but Council tend to limit the number times they'll put it to the membership exactly because it takes up time and money. I think 2003 or 2004 was the last time it came up. By the way, the registered name won't change, this is the proposed adoption of a trading name. It doesn't take a lot of time. Either tick the box yes or no!
In answer to Monty, there are lots of benefits to IFA membership, whether personal or as a profession. Many of the advances in professionalism and having a 'career' in archaeology from the last 20+ years have their basis in the IFA. However, they're a professional institute, not a trade union and so their remit is usually associated with strategic, professional issues rather than personal or contractual ones.
