Monty says:
.......maybe Velociraptor....... but it is unfair to tar all units with the same brush !..... in my recent experience positions have been offered by e mail with follow up call to confirm availability........another thought.......maybe Smiley person was doing the hiring rather than Posh Voice ????............ it is often POs who sort out field staff rather than unit directors (i presume that is what you are saying).....
Velociraptor:
In regards to Posh Voice, I will never know for sure, whether he genuinely did not know (and he SHOULD have known, working in the same office)about he jobs, or as I assumed, he was making sure that the local diggers and "the friends of their friends" got those jobs.
When I saw that digging team on site, it was definitely: local diggers and "the friends of their friends"
(Of course, this is the usual way off things. At that time, I was still circuit digging, so this incident further convinced me, that i would soon have to stay in one area to get established).
In regards to Shredding CVs.....no I did not say ALL units shred but some certainly do.
I visited my own local unit (former employer) yesterday and mentioned this BAJR "debate".
"They" said they shredded all the CVs that were "no good" in their opinion and kept a tiny few on file.
As for my opinion, that job hunters should send out new CVs, every two months, "they" agreed, on the basis that someone with a "No Good" CV two months previously, may have done something (another job/dig) in that two months, to boost the qulaity of the next CV that they send.
PS: When I say "they", I mean the opinion practice of our Admin person "Madame Z".
PPS: A person whose CV has been shredded, will never know that is the case - of course - and alas.
In regards to "Signing-On", my job centre has put me on the "Three Month Rule", so I am not going to be heavied into becoming a lap dancer, brain surgeon, skydiver or astronaut etc, until I have spent the first three months trying to get an archaeology job.
PPPS: After three months, the novelty of free time - and my bank account - will both be "wearing thin".....regardless of any Rule. Gonna have to take "any" job then.....if there is one.
UNCERTAINTY is the theme.
