GIMP. For real. Heaven knows why. No ball gag required though.

I showed your link to somebody who knows a lot more about photography, and she said 'ahh, yes, Prince's Principle'. So, putting an old picture on top of a new picture has a pleasingly alliterative name. But apparently the original PP was quite a neat idea that involved putting an old slide into an adapted 35mm camera,taking to the site and looking through the viewfinder to try to locate a now absent bridge using an old tree as a landmark.
